THE SPY

View as

La Spia was born among the terraced vineyards of Valtellina, a name that recalls the rocky ridge of the same name located in the Sassella DOCG sub-zone, once a strategic lookout post during the Grisons domination.

In 1962, the property was acquired by the Rigamonti family, who transformed it into a winery dedicated to the cultivation of Nebbiolo – Chiavennasca biotype. Today La Spia manages 4.5 hectares of vineyards distributed throughout the Valtellina area, producing over 25,000 bottles per year.

A young and dynamic winery, which combines passion and care for tradition with innovation and modern technique.

A territory suited to viticulture

Valtellina owes its unique character to the balance between climate and soil. The alpine conformation and the orientation of the valley favor ideal conditions for the vine. The soils, with a neutral or sub-acid pH, with a predominantly sandy texture and shallow depth, often subject the vines to natural water stress, contributing to the concentration and elegance of the wines.

The terraced vineyards, with their short rows arranged on steep slopes, represent a historical and functional heritage, making Valtellina one of the largest terraced mountain wine-growing areas in Europe.
