Chateau Musar White Gaston Hochar 2017
The 2017 Château Musar White Gaston Hochar is one of the rarest and most fascinating wines produced by the historic Lebanese winery founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar in the Bekaa Valley. This white wine is made from two ancient native grape varieties, Obaideh and Merwah, grown organically on centuries-old vineyards located at over 1,000 meters above sea level, in a terroir unique for its temperature ranges and minerality.
The winemaking process involves spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and lengthy aging in oak barrels and subsequently in bottle. The style is unmistakably that of Château Musar's great oxidative white wines: natural, artisanal, and destined for a long life.
It displays a bright golden yellow color. The nose offers complex aromas of dried fruit, honey, candied citrus, sweet spices, Mediterranean herbs, and mineral notes, with elegant oxidative nuances. On the palate, it is enveloping, rich, and deep, with balanced freshness, significant structure, and a long, persistent finish. The 2017 vintage, more linear and upright than others, offers a white wine of extraordinary elegance and tension.
Perfect paired with rich fish dishes, shellfish, spicy cuisine, white meats and mature cheeses.
